Study Abroad Programmes

An international engineering field trip should offer more than a visit to another country. It should give students experiences they cannot easily replicate in the classroom. For universities planning civil engineering, construction or built environment study abroad programmes in the UK, Constructionarium offers something different.

Students don’t visit a construction site. They become the construction team.

A UK field trip where students actually build

At our unique 19-acre experiential learning facility in Norfolk, England, students spend five days working together to construct a scaled building or infrastructure project.

They take responsibility for planning, programming, surveying and setting out, health and safety, quality, budget and construction delivery. They make decisions, solve problems and learn from the consequences in a safe, supported environment.

It is experiential learning for engineering students on a scale that is difficult to reproduce on a university campus.

Technical skills – and much more

Working as a team under real time pressures develops much more than technical knowledge. Students strengthen their leadership, teamwork, communication, problem-solving, planning, resilience, commercial awareness and confidence.

They have the freedom to make mistakes, adapt and try again, gaining a much deeper understanding of how different disciplines work together to deliver a construction project.

Proven with international universities

Constructionarium has extensive experience welcoming international students to the UK.

Texas A&M University has been bringing Construction Science students to Constructionarium for over 10 years, and students from the University of Calgary’s Schulich School of Engineering travelled from Canada earlier this year. Both will be back in 2027.

These partnerships demonstrate how Constructionarium can complement an international university’s existing curriculum while providing valuable exposure to UK construction practices.

Part of a wider UK study tour

Constructionarium can also form the practical centrepiece of a wider UK engineering study abroad programme, combined with visits to London, universities, professional institutions and significant engineering and infrastructure projects.Students can see world-class engineering – and then experience some of the processes involved in delivering it.

Make your international field trip unforgettable

Students return home with more than photographs. They leave with practical experience, greater confidence, stronger employability skills and stories they can draw upon in their studies and future careers.

We can assist with accommodation and transport from and to the airport – and anything else that will make your stay with us as comfortable as possible.

So, if you’re planning an international civil engineering field trip, construction study abroad programme or built environment educational visit to the UK, we’d love to hear from you. Send us an email – jstevens@constructionarium.uk

Don’t just bring your students to the UK to see engineering. Give them the opportunity to build it!
