Graham Watts

Graham is Chief Executive and Secretary of the Construction Industry Council where he is responsible for the general policy and direction of the Council. He is an Honorary Fellow of RIBA, CIBSE, CABE, ICWCI, BIID, CICES and the Faculty of Building and an Honorary Member of the RICS and CIAT. He was awarded the President’s Medal of the CIOB in 2000 and the Peter Stone Award of the Association of Building Engineers in 1996.

Graham brings with him a wealth of experience from his other Board positions in the Construction and Built Environment sector and as a Visiting Professor at the University of Northumbria. Graham has been Secretary of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Excellence in the Built Environment since 2010, he is a director of Building a Safer Future Ltd and is also a director of CIC, CICAIR Ltd, CUB (Holdings) Ltd and the Considerate Constructor Scheme.

Outside of construction, Graham had a long involvement in the sport of fencing winning a Commonwealth Medal in 1990. In 1992, he captained the British Sabre team at the Barcelona Olympics and was Manager of the British Fencing Team from 1996 and Team Leader at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics.

Graham is also an established international dance writer and critic. He is a member of The Critics’ Circle Council, the UNESCO Dance Council, Dance UK, the Society of Dance Research and the Cervantes Theatre Trust. In 2012 his biography of Daria Klimentová was published: “Agony and Ecstasy: My Life in Dance”.

Graham received an OBE in 2008 for his services to the construction industry and has been a member of the Construction Leadership Council since 2020.
